Lecce Italien

Lecce er en historisk by i Apulien-regionen i Italien og hovedstaden i provinsen Lecce. På grund af de rige barokke arkitektoniske monumenter, der findes i byen, er Lecce almindeligt kendt som "Sydens Firenze". Lecce har et dejligt historisk centrum (centro storico), og rejsende kan nemt bruge mange timer på at udforske maleriske små gader og finde de mere afsidesliggende barokkirker. Byens store kunstneriske skat er dens arkitektur; i forhold til andre kunstarter, som maleri, kan Lecce ikke rigtig sammenlignes med nordlige byer som Firenze og Rom. Byen har to hovedfokuspunkter: Piazza Sant'Oronzo og Piazza del Duomo. Piazza Sant'Oronzo er byens store civile hjerte, en stor plads med en lidt anderledes atmosfære, det gamle og det moderne sidder ubehageligt sammen. Piazza del Duomo er en usædvanlig fortolkning af en velkendt italiensk katedralplads. I Lecce sidder katedralen i et hjørne af en teatralsk indhegnet plads; et stille rum i hjertet af byen.
